Introduction

I want to start out by saying that I will not teach you how to draw. I can never imagine being able to teach you just by writing a few words. What I do hope to accomplish is showing you my techniques that I use to create a JAB drawing. Now you can apply these techniques to what you already know. However, if you are just starting out, I suggest you draw as much as possible. Perhaps take a few life drawing classes. I truly think that we still have allot to learn, and that no one ever stops learning. I continually take life drawing classes myself. After all, it is the human form that I constantly depict in my drawings.

Now through the next steps, I will stress the importance of gathering reference material, thumbnailing, keeping the character on-model, creating an appealing drawing, and finally painting it. These steps are created to expedite that drawing process. They are techniques that I have slowly acquired through time. In this revised version you will also notice how my techniques have changed over the years. Some of my prior techniques have become outdated and I no longer my my JAB drawings that way. Remember that drawing should be fun, and it should never seem like work. Play with it, have fun with it, use your imagination and most of all don't worry about how good you are. You will get better with time.
